Our Story
Welcome to Gremlin Travels.
We are Gemma and Stefan, a couple based in the UK who love travelling.
Having been together since we were young, we have had the opportunity to learn about what we love together. One thing that we both love and enjoy is travelling and seeing new places. For many years, while studying and working full time, we tried to get away whenever we could, trying to see new countries and places.
In 2018, we were both fortunate to take 4 months sabbatical from our jobs and went off travelling in Asia and Australia. It was an incredible experience and fuelled our desire to travel even more. The travel bug is a real thing and hard to get rid of (although why would you want to?!). It was a couple of years later that we decided to change our lives, including the way we worked, to be able to travel more and have more flexibility. We still work but now have the flexibility to travel when we want.
We aren’t backpackers, but we’re not luxury travellers either (although we’d love to be!), we’re somewhere in the middle. We enjoy discovering places on our own and, at our own pace. We like walking, swimming and nature, but we’re not hikers or sports enthusiasts. Travelling in some form of comfort is important to us, and, while we always have to budget, we try to have the flexibility and not tie ourselves to strict budgets.
We’ve grown up and lived in a relatively quiet town so, as you’ll see from exploring our site, we enjoy visiting cities and beaches the most, as they both offer what we can’t get at home, in our everyday lives. Food is also an absolute passion of ours, so trying all sorts of new dishes and local foods is high on our priority lists whenever we visit anywhere!
Combined, we have now been to 39 countries and are still counting! It all sounds very cliché and cheesy. but we honestly believe that travelling helps people become better people. Seeing more of the world, meeting new people, trying new things and putting yourself into sometimes challenging situations is good for you. It is only when you see more of the world that you appreciate your world more and learn more about people and new cultures.
Why We Made A Travel Blog
We are on a mission to make travel easier for everyone.
As experienced travellers, we know how time-consuming, and sometimes complicated, it can be to trawl through endless websites, travel books and videos before taking a trip, just to get simple information that you need. We know, from our own experiences, how difficult this can be. That is why we created our travel blog in 2021 – Gremlin Travels – where we can share our travel knowledge, tips and tricks with anyone that is interested. We have been to and experienced every destination that we write about.
We have thought long and hard about what travellers actually require, which is why we provide simple, practical travel guides for global destinations, alongside more in-depth travel articles and walking tour videos. Our guides cover the information that everyone needs for visiting new destinations including how to get there, how to get around, when to go, what to do, where to stay and how much things cost. Our growing collection of walking tour videos cover the best walking routes in a specific place, so if you’re only visiting for a day or two, you can easily follow these to get the most out of any destination.
We think travel is so important to open people’s minds. So we want to get more people travelling by making it easier, simpler and less complicated.
